CURRENT BEAUTY FAVORITES

The first blog post I ever wrote was about a beauty product. I love sharing my new finds with people and was realizing the other day that I haven't done a beauty post in a wicked (yeah, I said it) long time! So, here we go:

[shopping details at the bottom of this post]

TRESemme Fresh Start, Volumizing Dry Shampoo- I absolutely love this stuff. I've tried other brands and just haven't gotten the same results. The only word of caution I give you is: make sure you comb it through your hair or else you will see traces of white residue. Also, it definitely has a more pungent smell than others I've used but if that doesn't bother you, I highly recommend trying it.

Living Proof- P.H.D. Styling Cream- If you haven't been told about my obsession with Living Proof, let me enlighten you: I adore it. About two years ago, while I was looking for jobs before moving to Boston, I responded to a Craigslist ad for hair testers. Little did I know it was for Living Proof! Recently I was able to be a hair model for their educational class at the Mitchell John Salon on Broad St. My reward for letting professionals practice on my hair was a ridiculous box FULL of Living Proof products *swoon*! Anyways, meet P.H.D. (Perfect Hair Day) - really any product from the P.H.D. line is fantastic but this one is quick, easy and actually delivers. Since using it my hair has been easier to manage, shiny, and noticeably healthier.

Nivea Creme- Back in high school I had a foreign exchange student from Austria. One day, while snooping around her room (I mean hello! She was so cool I wanted to know everything about her) I found a series of Nivea containers. Obviously I had to try all of them and I instantly fell in love with this cream. It's heavier than what you would expect, so I only use it at night, but it works. I would recommend using a small dab and fully rubbing it into freshly washed skin. You may feel like your pores are being clogged at first, but I assure you they're not (however you may feel a little oilier than usual).

Revlon Colorburst Mattebalm- This stuff, THIS STUFF! I'm a huge lipstick fan. My biggest complaint though is that I always need to reapply to achieve the pigment of color I want. To be honest, I bought this stick on a whim at a CVS near North Station. Let me tell you, I'm so hooked. It doesn't smudge. It's a pencil so you get the control, but the consistency is soft enough that it's easy to blend.

First Aid Beauty, Eye Duty Triple Remedy- My friend Jess works for this company and gave a group of us this to try. Well it's amazing. The metal tip fights puffiness under my eyes and the concealer moisturizes and is light enough that it blends perfectly. I haven't used my actual concealer since I started using Eye Duty. Very highly recommended.

Find these products at ULTA Beauty or Sephora!
Enjoy!

My relationship with makeup started at a very young age. I’m not talking about getting into your mother’s makeup bag and turning your delicate baby skin into something Picasso would be proud of (although I’m certainly guilty of that too). I’m talking about stage makeup. I started dancing at age 2 and by 3 I was in my first series of shows and recitals. Perhaps this is when my love affair with cosmetics began. I remember sitting patiently, waiting for my mom to find the bright red lipstick that all of us reindeer were required to wear for The Nutcracker. I also remember thinking I was too cool for school in my big girl makeup.

Fast forward to middle school when the world of drugstore cosmetics was at my fingertips. It was then that mascara became my most prized possession. I wore it everywhere. Piled on so that my eyelashes looked like sticky spider legs, my mascara could not be too dark or too thick. Luckily, once high school hit I started to calm down a little bit with the clown face. It was at this time that I discovered water-proof mascara. Perfect for afternoon swim practices and much less clumpy than normal mascara, water-proof was the answer to my prayers. To this day I still swear by it!

waterproof mascara

If you’re looking to make the switch to waterproof mascara, I highly recommend the tarte lights, camera, splashes 4-in-1 waterproof mascara. For only $19 you are getting a high quality product without the hefty price tag.  The shape of the brush allows for full coverage with less of the standard clumping. Pair this with a dusting of tarte’s power couple Amazonian clay blush & bronzer duo and you’ve got yourself a simple, finished every day look in minutes. Want something a little more glamorous and summer-ready? No problem! Tarte’s airblush maracuja blush is the perfect companion to finish out your nighttime regime.

Head on over to tarte’s website to shop the latest and best products! They’re more than just mascara and blush;  I think you’ll find that tarte cosmetics is your new go-to favorite cosmetics brand.  I’d love to know what you think, so make sure to post your comments in section below.

blush

I have to be honest, I was a little annoyed yesterday when I saw Glitter Guide's pin about how they are so in love with Maybelline's Dream Bouncy Blush. Why was I annoyed? I have been using this blush forever! It's not new! You know how sometimes you feel a little territorial about something you really like? I don't know if I have the right to be irritated; there was no article that I could find to go along with it (just a pin with a link to the Ultra product site), so I can't tell if there was a new color that they loved or if they truly were just discovering it. Either way, for some reason it struck a nerve with me.

Regardless of how emotional that pin made me feel, the people at Glitter Guide are absolutely right. This blush is awesome. It is super easy to apply with your fingers and a little bit really does go a long way. It's also very light so it looks sheer and doesn't make your face feel like it has cake batter smeared all over it. With a price point of about $8, it's affordable too! Try it out, I bet you'll fall in love just like everyone else.

SSS

It's FRIDAY! WOOHOO!!! You know what that means, another great SSS coming atcha! This week I'm choosing to keep in line with the holiday theme and concentrating on fabulous red lips. I'm a huge fan of a bold, matte lip and these three choices will give you just that for your holiday event.

The Splurge is Nars Semi-Matte in Jungle Red. I adore the deep, rich pigment and love that it stays in place for more than 20 mins.  The Save is Topshop lips in Screen Siren. Not only is the packaging adorable, but the hue is vibrant and perfect for those last minute outfits that need some extra oomph! The Steal is Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in On Fire Red. The fact that such a great product is only $6 needs to be celebrated. My experience with Maybelline has always been positive so it makes sense that I would love this lipstick. Perfect for trying out a new color and not wanting to commit to a hefty price tag.

I would love to know if you all find any other awesome lip products so feel free to email me at mass.musings@gmail.com. Have a great weekend!

Lucky FABB

Several weeks ago, I received my acceptance email from Lucky FABB and literally shrieked with joy! I was so excited to travel to NYC for the conference and for the opportunity to meet other bloggers and network. The conference was held on October 24th and 25th at the Times Center and Conde Nast building respectively. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend Day One of the conference due to conflicts with work but let me tell you, it was a blast!

The event included various panel discussions, brand experiences and a cocktail hour where we were all able to mingle with the editors of Lucky Magazine and discuss the events of the day. Below are my pictures from the event and from the great days in the city spent with my friend and fellow blogger Kelsey!

John is seriously my new favorite person. I could not stop laughing at his sarcastic sense of humor the entire time he was on stage. May or may not have creepily tweeted at him too...

A Style Conversation with Kate Bosworth (below)
She was incredibly well spoken and captivating. The style that she emanates is perfect and it was such a treat to hear her speak about her wedding, personal style, and of course her new collection at Topshop!

Please can we also appreciate how phenomenal her shoes are??

I feel like this picture is the perfect way to sum up my trip to NYC- it was such an exciting blur! Kelsey and I capped off Thursday with dinner in Times Square followed by cocktails at Wined Up where my friend works. It was so fun and I feel so blessed and lucky (pun intended) to have experienced all of it. Thanks for reading!
