As a former collegiate athlete, I tend to gravitate towards athletic clothes any chance I get. I’ve pretty much worn anything even remotely acceptable to the gym, some of which I’m not necessarily proud of. Lately, I’ve been really trying to step it up when it comes to my gym attire. Not only does it make me look like less of a hot mess, but it keeps me motivated because sometimes you have to look good to feel good right?

Allow me to introduce you to Sweaty Betty. If you don’t know of them already, you probably should. They carry everything from yoga pants to sports bras, athletic tanks to ski jackets. If that doesn’t constitute a one stop shop, I don’t know what does. Most of their clothing is right on point with prices at other large retailers so there shouldn’t be a huge sticker shock. Plus, the quality of the merchandise is solid.

Of all their selection, I’m really into the sports bras and leggings. For someone (like myself) who is more well-endowed than most, having proper support while working out is absolutely key. The Galaxy Padded Bra has thick straps and comes in a really cool pattern so you don’t have to feel like you’re strapped into some ugly mess of fabric. It has an adjustable strap too so that you can customize the fit to your body and the sweat-wicking material makes it perfect for the warmer weather that’s creeping in.

For leggings, I recommend trying the Chandrasana Yoga Legging or the Supta Reversible Yoga Leggings. Both have a streamlined design and come in colors other than just black which make spicing up your workout wardrobe that much easier. They also have seams that prevent chafing which is a HUGE plus in my book. Do yourself a favor and buy them both so you don’t have to decide – I’m giving you permission!

ALDO bags

I am bag addict. Admitting your addiction is the first step to recovery right? Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up new bags just yet. Lucky for me (and YOU) ALDO has some amazing bags on sale right now and they're all under $50!

From top left going clockwise- Agra $30, Sconce $40, Brockhouse $20, Talamello $35

Each bag has something to different to offer in terms of style and size but they all pack a punch and enhance any outfit. I'm super tired of the same old boring neutral bag so the fact that these are all adorable, functional, and cheap? Sign. me. up. Head on over to aldoshoes.com or to your local ALDO store and snag one before they're gone!

Recently I have been in a style rut. Maybe it’s the winter season getting to me and I’m sick of hiding myself under impossible amounts of layering. Maybe I’m just ready for brighter colors and fun prints. Regardless of the reason, I know I need something in my closet to help me out of this hole. Unfortunately this weather still calls for pants and long sleeves, but I have good news! I’ve discovered rue21's amazing collection of pants just in time to save my seasonal fashion depression.

rue21

Get ready to welcome the rue21 Palazzo Pants to your wardrobe. The loose, billowing leg creates an extremely comfortable fit while still looking flattering. I absolutely love this silhouette and think that it pairs perfectly with a fitted top and an over-sized cardigan. Pile on some bangles and a few minimalist necklaces and you've got yourself a chic and easy outfit.

Love the patterns but want a more fitted silhouette? Don’t worry, rue21 also has great Printed Leggings. With a plethora of patterns to choose from, you’ll have no problems upgrading your typical black leggings to something more exciting. They also pair nicely with all types of footwear making your mornings that much easier.

Another great alternative to the Palazzo Pant is the Harem Pant. This style still has a looser fit but with a more tapered leg. Consider these pants the best of both worlds and do yourself a favor and buy them in every color. I would suggest you try wearing a gladiator sandal or another type of strappy flat to compliment the laid back style of the cut. Some people prefer to wear a heel or wedge to elongate the leg, but personally I think if you keep the top proportionate to the pant, a flat makes the outfit look more effortless and complete.

Like what you've seen here? Head on over to rue21.com to browse their entire patterned pant collection. While you’re there, get on your one-stop shopping game and peruse their selection of Graphic Tees. With so many options to choose from, you’re bound to find the perfect companion for your new pants. I promise you that you’ll find something you love to carry you into a Spring state of mind – Get shopping!

A Little Punky

punk aldo

Sometimes, I'm feeling a little edgier than others. What do I do when those moments strike? I break out my distressed jeans and add a little leather and a graphic T. ALDO has some pretty great accessories and shoes so I used them as an inspiration for this punkish outfit. I'm also loving this vest from Forever 21- super cute and versatile!

What do you think? Would you get a little punky and wear this outfit? I'd love to hear your opinions!

The Hunt

THE HUNT

J.Crew navy blue top, $105 / Plaid button up shirt / Marc by Marc Jacobs blue skinny jeans, $125 / Wellies boots, $305 / Longchamp zipper top / Monogram pendant necklace / Juliet & Company white pearl jewelry / Tory Burch tech accessory / Ray-Ban folding sunglasses, $265

It's almost time for The Hunt! This Saturday, October 19th, I will be trekking down to New Jersey for a day of drinking, socializing, and watching some horses race... or something. Really I'm just excited to see all of my friends that I haven't seen in ages (shout out to Gettysburg!). What does one wear to such an event? Easy, just grab your jeans, hunter boots and some version of flannel and you're good to go. I know I'm going to be rocking my newest obsession, my field jacket. For other ideas, visit Tuckernuck's new article for their take on Hunt fashion.

I'm super excited and I can't wait to post pictures from the weekend! Send me yours for this weekend's Photograph Something Challenge for a chance to be featured on the blog!

Denim on Denim

indigo 2

Mastering the denim on denim trend can be quite tricky if you have never done it before. Trust me, it took me a few outfit changes to finally find the perfect balance. I found that the key is having the shades and textures be so different that you can hardly tell that they are both denim. Either go for super dark on top and light on bottom, or super dark on bottom and light on top. Anything in between can make you look like you're wearing a Canadian tuxedo.... which is fine, if you're into that... but most people aren't comfortable enough with this trend to go that far.

Above is an example I put together to help you all master the denim on denim fad. What do you think? Would you wear this? Send your pictures of your denim on denim outfits to mass.musings@gmail.com and you could be featured on the blog!

Workin' for the Weekend... even though it's only Tuesday.

work it! 3

The weather is finally turning colder and that means it's time for warmer fabrics and and darker colors. What does that mean for the office space? Longer hemlines, opaque tights, and you betcha!... tortoise shell glasses.

I built this outfit around the great H&M sweater dress. I love simple lines and long sleeves as they lend themselves perfectly to a simple necklace and sparkly earrings. Throw on some J.Crew, ankle strap heels and pick up a plum colored, leather bag and you are ready! Another work outfit conquered.
