Today I am SO EXCITED to be featured on the {hub}LINKS Boston roundup! My post about local Boston boutiques is featured along with some other fabulous bloggers and their opinions on shopping in our great city. Make sure you check it out!
This weekend I'll be busy doing me with my mama. I'm going to try to tackle a wicked cool Washi tape project this weekend so check Instagram to see my progress. Hopefully you all have great plans to do you too! In honor of being so awesome, here is a soundtrack to take you into the weekend:
I like to think that I was taking “selfies” before they were considered cool. Let’s be honest. Most of the pictures I took in middle school were of myself … Okay who am I kidding, I still take selfies every day. We all take selfies every day, regardless of if you want to admit it or not.
Perhaps that is why The Chainsmokers song #SELFIE has over 4 million views on YouTube. If you haven’t heard of The Chainsmokers, you may want to catch up to the curve. Not only did they just sign with Dim Mak Records, but they also were just announced on the lineup for Ultra. Still don't know who they are? Let me spare you some Googling:
Meet Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, the two heart-breakers who are winning over the EDM scene one show at a time. Self-described as sexy and aggressively handsome, these two both “graduated from prestigious North-Eastern Universities, [they] like hot chicks in yoga pants, enjoy a good burger, and have been rejected from many of the venues they now play at.” It seems to me that neither of them cares about boring their fans with the gory details so I won’t either. If you want to know more about their background, you can visit their website here or their Facebook page here.
I was fortunate enough to catch up with Drew and Alex for a quick interview sans boring questions. I loved how they answered so I’m leaving them untouched, in their own words, for you to really get a sense of their personalities:
Do you guys have an item of choice that you like to wear during shows? Maybe some lucky underwear or some weird accessory?
We both love All Saints so we are both prlly wrapped up in their goodness… Drew usually has his Bara Bracelets and Alex wears his Patagonia hat… but none of it is about luck…
Are you totally sick of #Selfie yet or are you loving every second of it? Also be honest, how many selfies do you guys take every day?
Haha are you kidding we love it… we have worked our whole lives to make a song that ppl enjoy like this and talk about, while we didn’t think it would be about selfies, we are still very happy… as for the amount of selfies it varies from off days maybe like 10 and on show days maybe 100….
What is one thing that you absolutely can’t say “no” to? (can be in relation to anything, not just music based.)
Free steak… fireball or patron shots, sour patch kids, new episodes of Game of thrones, a good BJ… free wifi….
What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened so far during your careers as The Chainsmokers?
Honestly nothing… there surely have been so strange moments, music shutting off, getting denied at clubs or by ppl, getting the run around but it’s all been amazing… you gotta enjoy the ride… although Alex did once go skinny dipping in the ocean with some girls, then they all lost their clothes, accused security of stealing it as they were naked and then found it feet from where they were standing…
Are you actually chain-smokers? (Sorry but I had to ask.)
No, we actually hate smoking….
As you can see these guys are pretty great. They’re certainly enjoying the experience and I feel like they want their fans to jump right in with them. So what are you waiting for? Stalk them on social media, go see a show, I don’t care what you do (and neither do they) as long as you blast #Selfie when you’re getting ready to have a great night.
Loving Selfie but want more of The Chainsmokers? Make sure to check out their SoundCloud site for more great music. Until then, I leave you with this:
Today I thought I would throw it back to a post from last Spring. I have to admit, I do not shop at these stores as much as I used to, especially since I now work outside the city. However, my opinions hold true and I stand behind the reviews and grades. ***
As a full year of residency in Boston approaches, I have successfully found a slew of boutiques hidden in Boston’s varied neighborhoods. Don’t get me wrong, specialized stores and high-end retailers are great, but there is something to be said for a small shop tucked in between. I have rated the following three of my favorite boutiques based on inventory, designer selection, and convenience. I have also graded their customer service on a letter scale.
1) Crush Boutique (131 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02114): Crush is one of my newer finds in the city. Located in a basement retail space on Charles St. of Beacon Hill, Crush offers a true boutique feel. From the fitting rooms to the racks of beautiful and unique clothing, the store feels like it’s meant to be there, or that you stumbled into some hidden gem. Boasting brands such as Alice + Olivia, Fornash, Ella Moss, and Parker, Crush truly has something for everyone. Customer Service: A+
2) LIT Boutique (236 Hanover Street, Boston, MA 02113): I’m a little partial to LIT because it is literally right next door to my apartment. Whenever I am bored, or have time to kill, or just feel like looking at pretty clothes, I wander into LIT. They always have an updated collection of the latest trends, seemingly never missing a beat on the fashion scene. If you’re looking to add some BB Dakota, Talulah, Flying Tomato, and Tulle to your closet, LIT is the place to shop. Customer Service: B+
3) North River Outfitter (NRO) (122 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02114): If you’re on the preppy side, like myself, NRO may seem like a Kiel James Patrick catalogue come to life. They have a solid selection of Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, and Tory Burch as well as some great coffee table books and accessories to boot. Overall, it’s a one-stop shop for all things prep. If you frequent Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard, make sure you stop in their stores there too. Customer Service: B-
You will especially love NRO if you are a big fan of Tuckernuck
Happy shopping! *** I think it's funny how much I have changed just in a little under a year. I think that my style has evolved and I would no longer consider myself strictly preppy. I definitely appreciate my Jack Rogers sandals and my Lilly Pulitzer during the summer months, but now I mix it up with more bohemian silhouettes and a variety of patterns. Luckily, all of these boutiques carry styles that work perfectly with my closet (which is why I'm still such a fan of them)! Hopefully this throwback post inspired you to get out there and shop in your local community. It's very important to support the smaller businesses in your area!
Happy Friday you beautiful people! I hope that you all have some fantastic plans for this weekend. I'm attending a concert tonight and tomorrow, Drew and I are taking my parents to a Celtics game. Should be a good time! Regardless of what you have planned, I hope that you spend some quality time with someone you love. A friend, a family member, or a significant other... maybe even some random people you meet out and about?
Here are some jams to take you into the weekend, you know in case you need more of a reason to get excited for Friday night.
When I first got my ears pierced at age 9 1/2 (that half really mattered at the time okay?) my mother told me I was only allowed to wear studs because otherwise I would rip my ears. Well, now I have an irrational fear of saggy earlobes as well as an affinity for stud earrings. I'll admit, I went through a stage in middle school and high school (okay so maybe more than just a stage...) where I only wore dangley earrings. Now I will occasionally break out a gorgeous pair of chandeliers for a function, but day to day is chiefly studs. Thus, I give you this week's SSS- colorful stud earrings to take us into Spring.
The Splurge is Morgan Stud Earrings in Teal by Kendra Scott Jewelry. I love Kendra Scott and think that her jewelry is simple yet still gorgeous. These particular earrings are a unique take on the classic stud. They have extra prongs and the shape is more geometric which adds higher visual interest.
The Save is Kate Spade New York Small Square Stud Earrings. This earring is slightly more square in shape which I love. It's a classic stud from a great retailer and I adore the color. Definitely a must have for Spring!
The Steal is Jessica Simpson Primrose Earrings. Simple and streamlined, these earrings are great to throw on when you need a go-to for when you're running out the door and need something that will match anything.
